Red Hot Chili Burgers

Over this year we have had three courses which include Water, Fuel, and Food. In these courses, we have learned about the importance of each of these things and how our lives depend on them. We have learned how we use them, and how to fix them. Most recently in our Food class, we learned about the Green Revolution in which a man named Norman Borlaug helped create genetically modified crops to save about a billion lives from starvation. The upside is that he revolutionized farming and helped prevent starvation worldwide, but the downside of this revolution is that the crops that he modified required lots of materials such as water and fertilizer. The main goal of this Action Project was to make a solution for foods that have a high water footprint such as beef. If you don't know what water footprint is, it is basically the journey of water from one organism to another, cows for example eat grass, so cows have a high water footprint because they eat a lot of grass. I found a meal with a high water footprint and replaced it with a plant-based meal that has a lower water footprint. I chose a hamburger (high water footprint) and a Black Bean Burger (Lower water footprint)
