Gender EQUALity In the workplace ...

In school, I have an important class called SDGs and you. In this class, we are learning about SDGs which are the sustainable development goals of the United Nations. Currently, our teacher has encouraged me and my class to compare two different countries on SDG #3 or #5. I have chosen to compare Sweden and the United States of America on SDG #3 and #5. I am focusing on the gender pay gap because it is important. I think that there is a big difference between the two countries and it would be a good example to show.

Sweden has the lowest gender pay gap in the world and they have planned to reach for gender equality by the year 2025 according to their page. Sweden has 47% of women International Parliament. North American countries average 26% and Europe averages 32% of women in national parliaments. This is a big difference compared to the entire world because that shows that Sweden is really trying to Reach gender equality and it would the plausible for them to reach gender equality. Women's average monthly salary in Sweden is 90.2% of men's or 95.6% when differences in the choice of profession and sectors were taken into account. This means that women are closer to getting an equal amount of money than men.

The U.S has 26% Women in Parliament which is a significant difference from Sweden because Sweden has almost 50% which is very good. Women need to have a voice when it comes to Parliament and local governments. At the beginning of 2021, there was a study made that proved that for every dollar that a man makes, a woman makes 82 cents. This report shows that we are really close as well to achieving almost no gender pay gaps. The U.S is still far behind Sweden because the U.S still needs to fix things but that doesn't mean that we are not as far behind because we are achieving lower and lower.

As of right now, Sweden has a better chance of reaching 100% National equality, while the U.S would take longer to complete this challenge due to the compatibility that Sweden has with its population. The U.S has a higher wage gap than Sweden. Sweden has been keeping a constant eye on its equality levels and they have either stayed the same or risen. meanwhile, the U.S. levels have been going up and down, which is why they are hoping to reach the same levels or higher than Sweden. This is why I am comparing both of these countries.
